etckeeper software package provides store /etc in git, mercurial, bzr or darcs, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install etckeeper
etckeeper is installed in your system.
Make ensure the etckeeper package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep etckeeper *
You will get with etckeeper package name, version, architecture and description in a table
